In a galaxy far far away…

It is a time of Rebellion! Forces not in agreeance to the emperor’s conquest across the galaxy are causing turmoil amongst the ranks. The emperor is sending all forces to find the rebel’s secret base across all sectors! Rebel scum… We will hunt them down and end this insubordination! Leaders and troops have been deployed to different systems to find these rebels and end their insurrection! The way to peace is control of the galaxy…

Empire forces ready to move to Kashyyyk

Game Recap

The empire quickly started recruiting troops and moving forces across the galaxy. Patterns of rebels deploying units around Naboo had the Emperor suspicious. Being his home planet we didn’t want to hear about a rebel base was hiding in plain view of where he began political roots. We sent aerial and ground forces to Kashyyk, Bespin, and Dagobah. Conflict soon arose with the rebels!

The Empire overthrows Kashyyyk

Making our presence known, we overthrew Kashyyyk. The Emperor was pleased however commented to Grand Moff Tarkin that we only won because he had to step in. During this battle, Mon Mothma attempts an uprising in Bespin and gains support!

Our beloved empire lost the ground assault but we had other plans in mind. We had acquired enough resources to build a second Death Star on Dathomir! Soon it will be fully operational!

A Second Death Star!

Darth Vader wants to find this base as soon as possible takes command from the Emperor and moves units into Malastare for combat. Admiral Ackbar met our forces and foiled our plan! He prevented imperial forces from a special attack. We took down their X-Wing forces, while Ackbar retreats to Naboo. Malastare becomes subjugated to the Empire.

Ackbar retreats!
Battle Victory!

We were able to follow Ackbar to Naboo and Admiral Ozzel captured him! A glorious victory! Unfortunately, the rebels sent in their high and mighty Ben Kenobi to save him. It must have been their only hope. That’s ok though. Sending a message across the galaxy, we decided to blow up Malastare into oblivion!

As we continued to search for the rebel base, Naboo was a place of political drama. Overtaking the planet and influence was key for us to find the rebel base. We just knew we were close and pursued taking control!

Across the galaxy, the rebels sent young Jedi Luke Skywalker to Cato Neimoidia. Palpatine sent strict orders that Skywalker was to be captured and brought to the Emperor. Fortunately for us, we hired a Bounty Hunter, Boba Fett, and successfully captured Luke Skywalker.

Glad we hired that guy!

The Emperor was so pleased he oozed eagerness and immediately deployed to Cato Neimoidia! When he arrived he didn’t want to question Luke. We advised him that Luke could tell us where the Rebel base may be and we are so close to finding it! The emperor was displeased with us and said, “How dare you question me!” He suddenly gritted his death-looking teeth and purple lightning started to generate from his fingers! We left him alone with Skywalker out of fear, and didn’t want to stick around for what was to come!

Instead of questioning the rebel Skywalker, the emperor instead turned him to the dark side of the force! With Skywalker as a turncoat, now we can find that rebel base!

Feel the hatred FLOW through you!

Skywalker on our side, we deployed more troops around the northern part of the galaxy. Naboo struck a nerve with the galaxy. The rebel forces were gaining more influence throughout the systems. We pursued Rodia, Tatooine, and Ryloth! The rebels are sneaky because they attempted to flee! They were on Geonosis the whole time! The rebels escaped and we ran out of time! It looks like times were changing and the time of rebellion was going to overthrow us…

Gameplay Overview

The mechanics of the game have three phases: The Assignment phase, Command phase, and Refresh phase. The assignment phase consists of taking the leader from your pool with a mission card from your hand. Rebels act first, then the Empire. Certain skill requirements are on the card, and you must choose a leader with those specific sets of skills.

The command phase consists of either resolving the mission cards or moving units to other spaces in the galaxy. Ground units can only be transported by aerial units. Different aerial units have a different number of ground units that can be transported, so choose wisely! This is called activating a system. Mission cards are revealed and read aloud to the other player. If the card reads, “Attempt” then the opposing player can move a leader to the same space to counter the mission. If the card reads, “Resolve” then the action is completed with no interruption from the opponent.

The last phase is the refresh phase. It consists of getting the board ready for the next series of battles, deployment, and strategery you are planning to do!

Review

I loved this game! Even though I lost, I had so much fun learning how to play, and watching this epic story unfold in front of our eyes! Star Wars: Rebellion allows players to relive memorable moments in the series that we grew up watching. Russ and I often caught ourselves saying quotes from the films as we made choices of where to move our units. I got so much into the role of the Empire, that I even made choices that seemed fueled with the dark side of the force! I realized I made an error late in the game when I turned Luke Skywalker. I should have questioned him first, but instead, I just wanted to finally turn Luke. I was able to blow up a planet, and even got two death stars on the board! The other mistake I made was not using the Death Stars to my advantage.

What makes this game great is the opportunity to change the course of the story. It embraces all the missions but allows the players to change its ending. This game has a lot of replayability for any big Star Wars fan. Being our first run at this, we played for about nine hours. I would recommend not making any plans for the day, as it can be a long one. I recommend picking this up at your local game store if you are a big fan of the franchise, and love war games!
